A recurrence may reflect a mismatch between current capacity and what running is asking of the calf, shin or foot. Consider the whole week: miles, sessions, hills, walking, strength work and recovery.
The first task is to confirm what tissue is involved. A muscle problem, Achilles pain and a bone stress injury cannot share one generic return plan. Once the problem is clearer, the build can address strength and running exposure while watching the response after each step.
WHEN TO GET HELP
Repeated focal bone pain or pain with walking should be assessed before continuing impact training.
