Proximal hamstring tendinopathy can cause localised pain near the sitting bone, sometimes aggravated by running and prolonged sitting. It is one possibility among several causes of buttock or hip pain.

The starting point is to identify which activities are provoking symptoms and to build a tolerable loading programme. Faster running, hills and prolonged positions may need adjusting for a time. Rehabilitation should be shaped by the assessment, not by a generic hamstring stretch routine.

WHEN TO GET HELP

New neurological symptoms, marked weakness or pain with an unclear pattern calls for a broader assessment.
