Pain on the outside of the hip can relate to gluteal tendons; pain in the groin, deep buttock or lower back may point elsewhere. The location, what aggravates it and how it behaves after running help decide what needs examining.
For a gluteal tendon presentation, managing provoking loads and gradually building hip strength may form part of rehabilitation. Hills, cambered routes and a recent increase in running can all be useful details to discuss. It is worth understanding the problem before trying to run through it.
