Calf strains often involve an abrupt painful event, sometimes described as a feeling of being struck in the leg. Early on, the priority is to understand the injury and restore comfortable everyday movement.
Return to running asks the calf to handle repeated push-off, then eventually faster running and hills. Rehabilitation usually builds strength and impact tolerance in stages rather than relying only on a few days without pain. The timing depends on severity and the response to progression.
WHEN TO GET HELP
A hot, red or markedly swollen calf, or symptoms that do not fit a clear muscle injury, needs medical assessment.
